波士顿爆炸案嫌疑人拒不认罪

But first to Boston where a court has heard a plea of not guilty in the man accused of the Boston Marathon bombings in April. The attacks which the police believe were carried out by two Chechen-born brothers using backpack bombs killed three people and wounded more than 200 others close to the finishing line of the race. One of the suspects Tamerlan Tsarnaev died in a shootout with police just days after the bombing. The hunt for his brother Dzhokhar put the Watertown area of Boston into a day-long lockdown as the police combed the area. Now Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has made his first appearance in court since the attack. I asked our reporter Katy Watson in Washington to tell us what happened in court today.

It was actually a very short hearing. It lasted all of about seven minutes. It was the first public appearance of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev since his arrest in April and in it he pleaded not guilty to all 30 charges brought against him. Now those charges include using a weapon of mass destruction, firearms charges and also the killing of a police officer, as well as being charged in a carjacking incident and downloading Internet material from Islamist radicals and before these, blasts in April. But he has pleaded not guilty to all 30 charges brought against him.
